Right to Contest Any Challan in Court
A camera challan arrives for a signal jump at an intersection you passed through at 2 AM — when the signal was clearly not functioning.
Every traffic challan — whether issued on-spot or via camera — can be challenged before a Judicial Magistrate. Paying a challan is not an admission of guilt in a separate civil or criminal proceeding.
Paying is not the only option. Every challan, including camera challans, can be contested. Paying does not make you legally guilty.
"I am exercising my right under MVA s.206 to contest this challan before a Judicial Magistrate. I will not be paying it today."
